As summer passed its high I had started to feel loth to return to my regular work after a planned holiday in August, and put out some feelers in various directions for the purpose of escaping the prospect. One of these came through, in the form of a job offer from Marita at Abisko tourist station – the same Marita who together with her husband Hans had been in charge of Kebnekaise back in the winter of 2007. Then it had been a combination of restaurant and cleaning work, but this time it was only the former. After deliberating this for a while, together with the opportunity that presented itself in relation to the Unna Allakas visit chronicled elsewhere, I decided to go for it.

Time was fairly short, especially due to the extra lead-in tour, but being quite used to this sort of thing I had no problems getting ready, and so boarded the train a few days later with a fair amount of luggage and a sense of positive anticipation that had otherwise been absent of late.
