Summary

In a word: wet. More so than hoped for, but it wasn't really that bad a thing – since the ultimate purpose of this trip was to give my new equipment a proper field test, such conditions were actually more or less required (I wouldn't want to discover that, say, the tent can't fend off the rain when I'm many miles from anything). It was a shame on the views, though...

And, yes, the stuff did work. The tent provided all kinds of sheltering effects wished for, the boots didn't let one drop through and were kind on my feet, the rucksack fit nicely, and the wind suit worked very well also against light rain. The only drawback was the effect of the rain clothes, which was a valuable piece of information: that garment is unusable for prolonged trekking, but luckily I have another one which works much better. There were also other bits and pieces that were brought to my attention, so I got much out of the trip.

What was more worrying was my knee, which tormented me for weeks afterwards. I don't know what happened, or how or why – I've certainly subjected it to a lot more strain before, even routinely at work. It was also strange that it was only one knee that got hurt; the other one was perfectly fine. After it had healed I have never experienced anything like it again, even when exerting far more power under far longer periods. Strange, strange.

Damage issues aside, though, the fjelds are always worth the while, rain or no rain, fog or no fog – and the latter part of the second day was really nice. So, I certainly didn't regret going on the trip – instead, I started (or rather continued) looking forward to the next big event of the year...
