Introduction
As Yule drew close I started contemplating whether to spend another New Year's holiday in the fjelds, and this is exactly what I ended up doing. It had been two years since the previous time, and that in turn was two years after the first time, so perhaps I've started a tradition of sorts. Since I was in Vålåvalen last time and Stensdalen has been thoroughly crowded lately I opted for Lunndörren a second time. This year the interplay between work and holidays left four days at my disposal, and just like before I wanted to stay put for the first day of the new year. This meant that I could still go to Vålåvalen the day after that, and then return to Vålådalen, so this became the plan.
Some weeks prior a discussion came into being on Utsidan about this sort of thing, and there were a number of people who expressed interest in the idea of celebrating New Year's somewhere in the Vålådalen area. In the end a group formed for this purpose, but since it was to leave the day before the Eve I could not join it due to work, although the intent was still to meet up in Lunndörren later.

Add to that a scant liter of hot water in the thermos, and a half-liter bottle of cold water I carried in the anorak's chest pocket.
Here, then, is the full account of what transpired during the subsequent four days. Each section has a header consisting of a short overview of the stage in question, complete with a map showing the route travelled. A ring marks the starting point, a square the lunch break location, and a star the destination. Vertical distances have been calculated from the map and have an accuracy of 20 m. Cottage breakfasts consisted of oatmeal porridge, tea and a sandwich, and all lunches of two cups of instant soup and a sandwich.
