Summary

It is clear that celebrating the New Year in the fjelds is something the popularity of which has exploded during the last few years, and this time was probably a record – certainly for the Vålå cottages, which saw no less than 34 overnight guests on the Eve itself. As for Lunndörren, things were fully manageable, but had that extra group of ten arrived things would probably not have gone so smoothly; company was good too, even though it was a slight shame that I missed the other Utsidan people. As usual my using the following day for proximate antics rather than a full stage turned out well, and that peculiar serene moment upon Saanta was well worth any and all effort involved. I also got to use the sauna two times, which is something I've been longing for ever since Stáloluokta.

After the rushed start and the ethereal continuation came that which I had hoped for: a glorious day of midwinter tranquility. That moon-set was awe-inspiring and the whole morning provided much pleasure – not least because this was the first time I had been allowed to see the whole view from Lunndörren. The following journey to Vålåvalen was one long stretch of joy, albeit a cold one, and looking upon the tinted fjelds in the distance it felt as though I was skiing in a perpetual dawn – a dawn that segued directly into twilight, with a light that words cannot describe. Truly, this must be the best winter day I've had in the fjelds so far.

Now, that last day could definitely have been nicer, but I've had worse, and it was the home stretch anyway, and on the whole this was a successful outing. My next major project will be a wardenship period in Vistas in April, so in a way it's back to old hunting grounds...
