Ljungdalen

The two buses which ferried me from Östersund to Ljungdalen were both on time, and the further along I got the better the weather became. The road after Åsarna was of the very bumpy variety, causing much rattling, but it did afford a few views of Lunndörrsfjällen between all the trees. One of the passengers was an employee of the Helags fjeld station and set off on his own upon arrival, while everyone else (which was a handful) went to the hostel.

Said hostel was in quite an old building and for the most part both looked and felt it, but as I only needed to spend one night it was enough. I prepared dinner and ate while looking through some info material which was also quite old, and then went out for a walk in the fair evening.

I started off along the gravel road to the south, where lay an old hembygdsgård – a preserved group of buildings from days of yore, now functioning as a cafe and outdoor museum. It was closed at the moment, obviously, so I looked around the outside parts for a while before walking over to an adjacent area of smaller buildings and huts. Heading back I walked across a large field of grass where wide lanes had been cleared. Back at the hostel I regarded a murky-looking footbridge over to an island in Ljungan with a suspicious eye, and instead opted to return inside and relax in my room.

After studying the map some I made another visit outside for a look around, espying the route I was to take on the morrow, and now that the sun had set a chill was setting in. I proceeded to read for a bit in the common room and then prepared various things for the next day before having an evening snack. After that there was not much left to do but go to bed, which I did at 21:45.
