Unna Allakas was another of those places a bit "off to the side" that I had not seen, and therefore had a wish to serve as a warden at. I had tried before, but this time my wish was granted. I also specifically aimed for the early summer season, which is unusual for me; I tend to favor the mid-to-late season otherwise, both regarding wardenship and personal tours, so this was to be something largely new. As for Unna Allakas itself, I had heard much good about it, and the few pictures from the place (and area) I had been able to locate did not damage the impression, so I was really looking forward to it.

Since it would be early when I was to walk out there – right before midsummer – I assumed that there would be quite a bit of snow left on higher ground, so I had chosen the low, direct route from Abisko. Unna Allakas sits almost on the Norwegian border, and for the return journey I planned on going northwards on the other side of said border, passing Cunojávrihytta and Hunddalshytta, landing on the Narvik railroad at Katterat – allowing me to see even more places I only knew by name. I figured that by the time I was to pass that way – the beginning of August – there would be no snow left, and water levels would be more manageable, rather than going about it the other way around.

Before any of that, however, there was the usual warden meeting in Gällivare for all those who would open up at the same time. Several of those present I knew from before, others I knew by name or reputation, and some were new to me. There are changes afoot in the "cottage business", and much of those were still up in the air at the time, but at least this season would be conducted pretty much as normal.
